Sleep Easy

is BACK on 11th March!

Southend YMCA is once again hosting its annual virtual fundraiser #YMCASleepEasy.  The vital funds raised will go towards our support services, which include safe accommodation, counselling, mentoring, life skills training and positive activities for vulnerable young people.

The challenge is to sleep anywhere away from your bed for ONE night! Set up your Just Giving FUNdraising page by clicking the button below and get family and friends to sponsor you!

YMCA Southend is proud to be once again taking part in YMCA's national Sleep Easy which has seen more than 7,000 people sleep rough in the last 10 years to raise over £1.5m for local YMCA services that help vulnerable young people rebuild their lives.

YMCA Southend is asking supporters to sleep out, so others don't have to. In ordinary times, this would have involved groups and individuals meeting at a YMCA, building cardboard shelters, sharing the evening outside and together experiencing the harsh realities of life on the streets.

The challenges of running an event like this during the current pandemic are many, however, they do not compare to the difficulties that young homeless people are battling every single day.

For more than a decade the public has been sleeping out to raise money for YMCA and this year we are asking you to do so but with a twist. We're asking the public to sleep on their porch, bathtub or under the stairs in their home, or if you are able to brace the weather in tents in your garden.

While we cannot be together for Sleep Easy, we can still help save young people lives. For one night only, will you join us and make a difference?

NEW for 2022!

This year are inviting local schools, organisations and businesses to support our Sleep Easy fundraising campaign on Friday 11th March by wearing your pyjamas for the day and donating £1 to support vulnerable young people in Southend-on-Sea and surrounding areas.

All proceeds from your school's Sleep Easy PJs Day will go towards our vital support services, which include safe accommodation, counselling, mentoring, life skills training and positive activities for vulnerable young people.

If you would like to get your school or workplace involved please email sachaedwards@southendymca.org.uk

Why donate?

Jo'Ann is currently a Southend YMCA resident and wanted to express why Sleep Easy is so important, after being at risk of homelessness herself.

Newlands housed 96 young people last year. That’s over 32,000 nights of safe sleeping for young people!
