From Troubled Child to Triumph: How the YMCA Changed My Life
Meet Rebecca — a former resident of Newlands Supported Accommodation, part of Southend YMCA’s ongoing mission to support young people at risk of homelessness. In this heartfelt video, Rebecca opens up about her personal journey, the challenges she faced, and how Newlands became a turning point in her life.
Before arriving at Newlands, Rebecca was facing uncertainty and the very real risk of homelessness. But through the stability, support, and sense of community provided by the team at Southend YMCA, she found the space to rebuild her confidence and look toward a brighter future.
In the video, Rebecca shares how the structured environment, access to guidance, and encouragement from staff helped her move forward, set goals, and begin to believe in herself again.
Her story is one of resilience, growth, and hope — a powerful reminder of how the right support at the right time can change the course of someone’s life.
