The Homely Project
About the project
With probono advice and grant support from the LandAid Charity, we were able to conduct a review of how we use utilise spaces in our Newlands building.
Creative architectural ideas helped us to see where we could repurpose existing spaces to create additional bedrooms within the footprint of our building. This exciting development means we will be able to offer even more young people housing with support.
So far we have upgraded 9 bathrooms and created an additional bedroom, with refurbishment plans for an additional flat. We expect to complete the project by the end of 2020.
We are proud to be a LandAid Partner and support their vision which is to ‘end youth homelessness’ and for every homeless and formerly homeless young person to receive ‘life-changing services’.
The project benefits current and future residents living at our Newlands building.
Please refer to the Newlands Building page to see the eligibility criteria.
How we can help
The project is called ‘homely’ as we expect young people to benefit from the cosy and comfortable spaces we are renovating and creating.
Our belief is that a safe and secure 'homely' environment will strengthen young people’s psychological, physical and social well-being.
At Southend YMCA we are committed to continuously improve the facilities and resources we provide to young people.
