Jo'Ann is currently a Southend YMCA resident and wanted to express why Sleep Easy is so important, after being at risk of homelessness herself.
A huge thank you to everyone who got involved with this year's fundraiser and has helped us to continue to be able to support local young people in Southend who are at risk of being homeless.

On the 26th of March from 7 pm to 7 am Southend YMCA is hosted their annual virtual fundraiser #YMCASleepEasy, the vital funds raised will go towards tackling the root causes of youth homelessness.
The challenge was to sleep anywhere away from your bed for ONE night!
YMCA Southend is proud to have once again taken part in YMCA's national Sleep Easy which has seen more than 7,000 people sleep rough in the last 10 years to raise over £1.5m for local YMCA services that help young people rebuild their lives.
YMCA Southend asked supporters to sleep out, so others don't have to, by taking part in special Sleep Easy events all over England and Wales. In ordinary times, this would have involved groups and individuals meeting at a YMCA, building cardboard shelters, sharing the evening outside and together experiencing the harsh realities of life on the streets.
The challenges of running an event like this during the current pandemic are many, however, they do not compare to the difficulties that young homeless people are battling every single day.
For more than a decade the public has been sleeping out to raise money for YMCA and this year we are asking you to do so but with a twist. We're asking the public to sleep on their porch, bathtub or under the stairs in their home, or if you are able to brace the weather in tents in your garden.
While we cannot be together for Sleep Easy, we can still help save young people lives. For one night only, will you join us and make a difference?
