All In Music: 10 Questions With... Aaron Perkins

September 18, 2019

Welcome to the latest installment of our blog feature, '10 Questions With...', where we'll be asking young people who have recently taken part in All In Music sessions and projects to provide an insight into their success story: a bit about them, what they got out of our project and what they'll be going on to do in the future.

Next up we have bassist, Aaron Perkins:

Q.1 - Who are you and what do you play?

My name is Aaron, I’m 21 years old and I like to play bass guitar and piano.

Q.2 - What’s your favourite thing about music?

I enjoy listening to music and I am amazed I can recreate the same songs here on the bass guitar.

Q.3 - What musical experience did you have before coming to 'All In Music'?

I played piano but very little.

Q.4 - What have you enjoyed or learned so far during your music sessions at All-in-Music?

I have enjoyed choosing songs I like to listen to and then have the opportunity to learn to play them on bass rather than being told what songs I should learn to play.

Q.5 - What genres and types of music do you like/listen to?

I like a little of almost everything including Pop, Rock, Rap, Classical…quite the range.

Q.6 - Who are your musical inspirations?

Listening to great songs and wondering how they are composed and the real meaning to the artist.

Q.7 - Apart from our music sessions, what else have you been a part of outside of the Southend YMCA?

I have worked alongside the National Citizen Service, a voluntary personal and social development program for 15–17 year olds

Q.8 - What has been your biggest achievement so far with 'All In Music'?

Memorising some of my favourite songs and being able to keep what I have learned in my head.

Q.9 - How has being a part of 'All In Music' changed you personally?

I feel happier in my self and have more activities to look forward to each week.

Q.10 - What’s next for you?

To keep learning and pushing myself and see what I am musically capable of.
