We are looking to recruit a Support Worker to add capacity to the work of the ABSS-funded Breastfeeding Support Groups.

The UK has one of the world’s lowest breastfeeding rates, and many women stop breastfeeding before they wanted to, due to lack of support. The purpose of this project is to provide community-based, welcoming groups so that mothers feel supported in their choice to start and continue breastfeeding.

You will need to have an empowering, empathetic and non-judgemental approach, with experience of supporting breastfeeding mums and having completed relevant training in breastfeeding support. Practical experience of running or assisting with any groups in the community (such as toddler groups, craft groups etc.) would also be very useful.

You will need to create a warm, welcoming and comfortable environment in which new mums can come and discuss breastfeeding issues and build positive relationships with others. Ability to maintain accurate written notes and records is essential, and when information needs to be shared, this should be done in an appropriate and agreed way.

Due to the nature of the client groups that you will be working with, the successful applicants will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS Disclosure.
