Y Market is a 16 week project where 14 young people will participate in a PR, marketing and advertising campaigns in relation to companies, organisations and groups that provide positive opportunities for young people in Southend and the surrounding areas.

Young people will create a variety of promotional materials including posters, flyers and promotional videos as well as maintaining a project blog and creating social media pages.

The project will culminate in an 'activities open day' which will showcase the companies we have created campaigns for. Volunteers will act as representatives on the day and plan the event with the assistance of the project staff.


This week in Y Market, the team took things to the next level, withyouth_in_action_logo_v_small everyone's roles being truly defined. The group focussing on environmental awareness took a marketing approach to the project. Southend YMCA has recently been in contact with Jill Poet, the managing director of Healthy Life Essex, an organisation promoting a healthier and greener lifestyle for the people of Essex. The group promoting environmental awareness were able to contact Jill for more information about methods of making a more 'eco-friendly' Essex. They are in the process of seeking approval to feature

Y Market is a project for 16-30 year olds, looking at opportunitiesyouth_in_action_logo_v_small available for young people in Southend and then promoting them, by creating marketing material, press releases and holding an opportunities fare in the coming months. This is a blog from one of the young volunteers, Elliott on the project so far.     

On 8th February, Y Market truly took off and the other volunteers and I began to put what we had learnt into action. We were informed that we were going to be designing and creating promotional materials for various companies and services. The group was split up into three groups and each was assigned an area which they should focus on.
